Abstract

Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) remains as one of the actual issues of current anesthesiology, surgery and neurology. The role of anesthesia and surgical operation in development of this pathology is still unknown. The issues of etiopathogenesis, prophylaxis of POCD and neuropsychological testing are discussed in the review. Also data about links between the type of anesthesia and the occurrence of cognitive decline is given.
